World Kamishibai Day is December 7. People all over the world will tell a kamishibai story for world peace. I participated in the first World Kamishibai Day in Tokyo in 2018, sponsored by The International Kamishibai Association of Japan. For the Japanese people, the war started on December 8. The date of December 7 chosen for World Kamishibai Day is coincidental as the day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in The United States.
Healing comes by returning to the place before the wounding. You can listen to a podcast about Kamishibai, Japanese paper theatre, from some IKAJA members here. The Japanese people sincerely desire peace and wish to use kamishibai to achieve that goal.
Kids are more anxious than ever in the world. They need stories to help them navigate life’s challenges. Just add yoga! Do Tell! Tell a kamishibai story at home, school, library, therapy session, camp, religious place… anywhere will do! Use pictures, magazines, use Storytime Yoga Kamishibai, or have kids make their own!
