Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Be the Voice to Stop Suicide

Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, there are numerous links and resources available to get the world out about suicide and save lives. A special section on materials for high schoolers and teachers to spot depression and suicide warnings is here.

I will be presenting the program A Lifeboat and a Compass, Suicide Prevention with Yoga and Stories all day Friday September 9 for the DeLand, Florida High School Jr ROTC.

JRROTC- Suicide Prevention with Yoga and Stories - Sydney Solis

Suicide prevention has always been a big part of Storytime Yoga and Mythic Yoga trainings. My first husband and little sister committed suicide, and yoga and stories helped me overcome these tragedies, including my own depression and past suicidal tendencies of my youth.

My sophomore daughter regularly tell me how many kids in high school are cutting, depressed or in need of help. Indeed it has become epidemic proportions of crisis and we are here to help. Suicide is the number two killer of teenagers in the United States, according to the American Association for the Prevention of Suicide. A task Force recommends that all teens be screened for depression. Another study says that's School Based Health Clinics can help cut teen suicide as 1 and 25 contemplate suicide and it's a epidemic...

[c]hild abuse and neglect is the single most preventable cause of mental illness, the single most common cause of drug and alcohol abuse, and a significant contributor to leading causes of death such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and suicide.”

I will also be giving a teleconference call on October 19 for the Healing Story Alliance called: How to Survive Anything: Yoga and Stories for Healing Trauma. Visit the website for a past recording I gave on Lifeboat and a Compass: Yoga and Stories to help heal

I know how to survive. One of the reasons why I teach suicide prevention. […]

  3. […] Another story that I use in suicide prevention programs that I teach is the story of a snake in a cup. A man mistakes the reflection of a hanging rope for a baby snake in his cup of tea. Drinking it he gets sick. The next time he has this cup of tea, he becomes aware of the hanging rope above him, realizing his error in cognition thinking that it was a baby snake, allowing his mind to make him sick when really nothing was there at all.
