Bernie Sanders is our best bet for all women and children to thrive in the U.S.A, not just the wealthy few.
Greetings and Namaste. I’m Sydney Solis. This is the story of why I’m voting for Bernie Sanders for President 2016.
Bernie Sanders is for protecting and expanding Social Security. Social Security and Democratic Socialism protect and elevate women and children as well as benefit all of society, including business.
I know because I became a widow at age 36 with 2 young children in 2003 after my husband’s Denver business went bankrupt and he committed suicide. My husband's small business back then didn't have available to him the emergency lines of credit from the Fed like some big businesses got during the financial crisis of 2008. (So much for a free market.) But without the Social Security Frank Solis paid his hard-earned salary into, our son and daughter and I would have been penniless and in poverty, placing us all at high risk.
Yet, with Social Security, I was able to attend full time to my 2 and 5-year-old children’s myriad needs and help us cope with the deep loss of their father and my husband rather than stress over economic pressures when we were penniless and losing our home. Instead of more stress and shock working somewhere as a stressed single mom, I could be a mother and homemaker attending to my children’s needs and education, including my daughter’s learning challenges and son’s homeschooling.

Single mom Kerrin and her 5-year-old daughter, Lucia, shared a home with us for a while. Social Security helped me share the wealth as well as contribute to the incomes of many vendors working part time on Storytime Yoga.
I was also able to extend the stay-at-home economic gains of this Social Security support by expanding it to other young women and single mothers in our community, who either lived with us temporarily or socialized with us. I saw first hand the enormous pressures single mom's face trying to work full time and support their kids alone, and how it affects their kids.
Additionally, women tend to get involved with or move in too soon with men for financial support, and sometimes those relationships can be abusive for women and children. Social Security keeps women independent of male dependency on that level. I wished Social Security could benefit these women as well. What a world we would have when women and children are supported.
My children, now teenagers, are well-adjusted and bright, thriving and independent-minded and ready to fly the nest soon, rather than surviving and enduring emotional trauma from poverty had there been no Social Security benefits, of which I didn’t even realize we had until after my husband's death.
I think everyone will want to expand Social Security when we realize that this public good it benefits the business sector as well. Social Security enabled me to continue being a full-time homemaker but also work part time at my small business, The Mythic Yoga Studio LLC and Storytime Yoga, which teaches kids and families peace, wellness and literacy. I was able to stay current in the work world as a woman, yet be able to drop everything if needed to tend to my children’s needs. Isn’t that the best way to focus on the family? Children and family first.

Motherhood is important to me. Pro-life America begins with allowing mothers to stay home with their children and Social Security provides this option, especially if you are a widow like me with young children.
I have contributed back to Social Security by creating income from my business that has paid out to numerous vendors and consultants over the years, such as bookkeepers, printers, web designers, coaches, all gaining from my small business work and experience as a widow on Social Security.
Because I am supported by Social Security, I have been able to volunteer my time regularly in my children’s classrooms and present my work and trainings for free to non-profit groups that couldn't afford to pay me. I have been able to be what I wanted to be before my husband died: a mother and homemaker, but still able to keep up skills in the working world that are needed, when my benefit ends next year and I transition back to full-time work supporting myself again.
Social Security is just that. Security via our social structure to eliminate the dire economic stresses on all people that are at the roots of frustration, anger, upset, poverty and war. It’s security for the United States. Security for women, for men. For families, the elderly, the disabled, the retired. For all of society. Let’s have children brought up in thriving and joyful, rather than struggling and suffering environments. This investment of expanded social security for our children and education is the best economic development and homeland security possible. That was my children and I’s experience.
Let’s have peace, for the children. For families. Focusing on the family means supporting women and children economically. We already have social security for business, with bank bailouts and we subsidize oil and meat companies that reap billions in profit and foul the planet.
So let's subsidize women and children and support families more via protecting and expanding social security and equal pay. Help single mothers raise and educate their children. Let’s nourish them for higher education that is free for everyone of every race and class.
That’s what Bernie Sanders is all about. He’s for the people. He’s for women and children. He is for peace!
It’s why I’m so excited to share my story with you. and why I’m voting for him for the Democratic Nomination for President of the united States of America 2016! Thank you.
OM SHANTI

[…] Bernie Sanders as president will turn the tables on the banksters souring the temple of the public and the tranquility of the People, and his plans are not unrealistic. He will help women get equal rights and wages and paid maternity leave and to care for their children and families, something the rest of the prospering and peaceful first world has had in place for ages. Sanders will expand the popular Social Security and to help all Americans in retirement as well as provide a safety net for poor and disabled. Social Security has helped me, a widow with young children, not fall into poverty but raise smart kid… […]
