So I have been implementing an ayurvedic diet in my children's diet with mixed success. We cleaned out the cupboards and shopped for all the good things on the list for my daughter's vata imbalance my and son's pitta imbalance. My son squirmed while I put drops in his eyes to cool down the heat in them, and hated the flavor of a certain drink even though it was mixed with grape juice, however, after a few days of reminding him, he is taking his probiotics and fish oil, etc. on his own initiative. I talk about the benefits of health rather than forcing it, to get him excited about it and the amazing bio-mechanics of the body and how to maximize his human potential by caring for this body-vessel. So that I believe has an effect. My daughter is eating more brain food, nuts and seeds and other protein, and this is helping. To get her healthy and her brain healthy to help her focus her ADD, however, I must confess I may try for myself some ADD drugs along with her just to see, as there may be some biological facts of our brains that no matter what vitamins and herbs we take, our brain chemistry needs more. ANd the frustration she has in the inability to focus is an echo of me. All my work is a struggle and ends in frustration so much, because i am sure of it as an ADD issue and wow, what if drugs really work? I mean childbirth is THANK YOU HEAVEN! for drugs on that end. I will proceed with caution, however, she struggles with school and her tutor thinks it is an auditory thing of ADD, so we shall see. But to get kids to change their diet takes patience and if you approach it as a fun thing and pump up their enthusiasm about it, that is the best approach.
