Last night I watched the Incredible Hulk with my 12-year-old son. I watch these types of movies from time to time with him for fun, as I do watch girl movies with my daughter, like Hannah Montana (never thought I'd do that one!)
It was fun to see shots of original cast member Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigno in the movie, and I related to my son how I regularly watched this show as a kid on TV with my family (along with Charlie's Angles, Starsky and Hutch and The Brady Bunch only once a week, not 24-hours!)
The interesting thing about the movie was Edward Norton's character, who meditated. He realized that it was his anger and heart rate getting up to a certain level that set things off and this "monster," The Hulk, came out.
Truly he's working on controlling his ego mind! The ahamkara, this "story" that we believe in about ourselves and our world and the complex patterning we were born into.
I thought the Hulk was an interesting metaphor for boys to recognize their anger, and how to meditate to temper it! also, it had some interesting Sumerian myth of Inanna references, as to the Liv Tyler female character in the movie was effective to "tame the beast."
For a continuation of this topic and the rest of this blog, become a member of the League of Yogic Storytellers, and use myth, story and yoga for children! We will be learning about updating myths from the olden days to make relevant for youth's modern issues.
Don't forget sign up for the Mythic Yoga Story in the Body retreat! It's around the corner! IOt will be an amazing experience, as language and myth will permeate your body, heart and mind! That's June 22-25, followed by the Storytime Yoga Children's Yoga Teacher and Yoga Play Therapy Training June 26-27. These are the only live workshops I put on in the US anymore, except for Omega and Kripalu. (come to those too if you can!) So come and play and learn and hang out with your tribe!
I have some blogs on Blogher.com if you'd like to read about my writings for women and children and preparing for some serious economic hardships of the future! It's a big reason why i'm going to Argentina and to check out an eco-yoga farm! as I wish to live a simple and sustainable live in community to raise and educate my children! But fear not! Yoga, meditation and story are here for you! And the changes in the world will be better for all, even though they may be difficult, they will be joyous because your heart is centered in yoga and service! In other words, it's showtime! And your yoga and storytelling skills are needed and in demand to help others during these times. We work especially in the name of children, for they are the future we are working for.
Love and Peace,
SYDNEY SOLIS
